My review of the gig

The night was extremely cold, and after a very energetic performance from the excellent Queens of the Stone Age (I advise you to check them out), STP really had to go the extra mile to upstage QOTSA! After Josh Homme and co. exited the stage, a great silver backdrop with the Stone Temple Pilots name etched onto it rised, causing a really strong reaction from the assembled throng.

Those who were there for STP were really anxious (including myself). Then, all of a sudden, the lights go out and we start hearing a DAT tape of "Wet My Bed". What could follow this introduction? The answer is only one: "Crackerman" came crashing in, leaving the fans rabid with excitement. The crowd was soon won over!!

Weiland was the last to come on stage, wearing an all-black attire, but with a touch of eccentricity by choosing to dye is hair a lovely shade of bright orange! (To go along with the cover of the new cd, perhaps). STP's unmistakeable sound echoed throughout the magnificent area of the festival, winning over a lot of fans from the kids that were there to hear and see Papa Roach.

The gig gained a fantastic momentum. By the third song, Weiland was all sweaty and shirtless, strutting his funky stuff and incredibly well-built torso around. Eric Kretz also played an inspired set, showing how good a drummer can sound when he is inspired. Robert was the less extrovert of the four, oftenly staying rooted to his spot. On the contrary, his brother Dean got close to the audience numerous times, making the audience go wild! The set never lost the momentum throughout, as the hits kept rolling by, one after the other. "Interstate Love Song" and "Plush" caused great sing-a-long moments. This was being a great, great show.

At the end of "Down", the band concludes the set and throws the usual stuff at the audience: drumsticks, guitar picks, towels, etc. I just hope that a real fan of STP caught them, and not some person that don't give a s**** about it. My boyfriend caught a bottle of water that Dean threw to the audience… Yeah right… Water! How long lasting a memento that one is!!

The gig ended too soon. Only 75 minutes and a lot of songs that were not played but should've. Although their choice was faultless, look at all the great songs they left unplayed.

Conclusion: STP seem tighter than ever, both as performers and as friends. I've never seen a band enjoying so much to be performing together. In the end, they hugged each other and bowed out to the audience.

It's really great that Scott has managed to set himself free from his drug habits, thus resuscitating STP from its letargy, and making it one of the most vital bands around. You can't afford to miss them. Go to their gigs, if they're playing your area or your country.

Photos

This section will have more photos added throughout the month. For now, it only contains the photos I took myself. Only 4 came out reasonably good. The others had someone's head or hand ruining the photo, so... if any of you guys goes out to see STP in your country and takes some photos of the bad in action, please send them to my mail, so I can post them here. Full credit will be given to you.

P.S. Send the photos just like you scanned them. I will give them some finishing touches if necessary.

Curiosities

STP requested at the eleventh hour a masseur and some special sauce for pancakes, thus sending the festival promoters into despair to arrange those things. Strange thing is, they didn't order any pancakes to go with the sauce. I wonder what that was for?
