"I didn't become a Dylan fan until recently. I've been a Beatles fan my whole life, but Dylan, I always thought, 'I don't understand what's so great about that guy.' But as I've gotten older, and as I've become more open about learning about a lot of things, I've realized that all you have to do is listen to the story he's telling and the way that he's able to use words. He's been widely accepted as probably the most influential writer of lyrics ever since rock 'n' roll began."

The new STP's album was announced in New York -May 10- by Atlantic Records. The band's fifth release is due in stores on June 19th.

"Shangri- la dee da" was produced once again by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine), and the album "...finds the California-based quartet - ... -continuing to carve out their own unique musical terrain, blending diamond-hard riffs, psychedelic experimentation, punk energy, and Beatlesque melodies into their most stunningly inspired artistic realization to date...".

"Days Of The Week", the album's first single, will be aired all over the radios in early June.

A companion video clip is currently in production.

This could be the cover of the upcoming album. (But, if they reveal to be such "bastards" as Tool, this is due to change at least, oooooh, some 15.000.000 times). We can find this picture on the homepage of the official site. Anyway... it's a nice picture. Save it! : )

This are the 13 tracks from Shangri-La Dee Da:

Source: MTV Online

* "Days of the Week"- Album's first single

* "Dumb Love"- Has crunching guitars. Weiland: "It's vintage STP."

* "Hello It's Late"- Weiland: "It's kind of like Carole King meets Pink Floyd."

* "Coma"- Sounds like a rap-metal version of Purple's "Vasoline."

* "Regeneration"- Weiland: "This is our prog-punk opera."

* "Too Cool Queenie"- Weiland: "I'm making no comments on that one."

Here's the story: "There was this boy/ He played in a rock and roll band/ And he wasn't half bad/ Saving the world/ She said he could not do right/ So he took his life/ His story is true ... /And now this girl/ She got real famous."

* "Long Way Home"- Weiland: "This is from the part of us that will always love Led Zeppelin."

* "Wonderful"- Weiland: "Of all the ballads that we've ever put out, this is probably my favorite...It's also a love song for my wife. Sometimes when I'm lying in bed with Mary in the morning, and she's still sleeping, I wonder, 'What would she do if I died? What would I do if she died?' It's a what-if song."

* "Lonely Again"- "Hold your breath underwater/ And know you'll rise to the surface slowly."

* "Bi-Polar Bear"- It starts out slow with only voice and guitar and then explodes in the chorus: Can't sleep behind the wheel as you're driving home ... /I'm manic as hell, but I'm going strong."

Weiland: "That's a day-in-the-life song. I suffer from manic-depressive disorder, and I've chosen not to take medication for it, and because of that, every once in awhile I go through manic episodes and really depressed episodes. It's kind of like a snapshot of one those."

* "Hollywood Bitch"- It could be the second single. "Everybody's searchin,' every single night."

Weiland: "It's about the Hollywood club scene and how sad it is."

* "Transmissions From a Lonely Room"- "Take a bath with consecrated water from the shrine/ And wash away the mud of all the miles you left behind."

* "A Song for Sleeping"- A lullaby for Weiland's 5-month-old son, Noah, where he sings: "I don't deserve this/ I never thought it could be."

Stone Temple Pilots will be leading the Family Values Tour. Scott Weiland said Friday: "[Our management] asked everyone in the band if we were into it, and we said yea". Staind and System of a Down are also in discussions to appear on the bill, Weiland said. "That's the tentative lineup."

The trek is slated to run through the United States in October and November.

Shangri-La's first single, the catchy pop-rocker "Days of the Week", will arrive at radio in late May as the band heads to Europe for a two-week tour.

Source: LA TIMES (By Steve Hochman)--> New album is due June 26

Titled "Shangri-La-Deeda" (a reference to the Malibu mansion where the band lived and recorded during the sessions).

The album will have a bit of bossa- nova, "About a Fool" and "Bipolar Bear", that carry a sense of introspection in Weiland's lyrics that fans will certainly analyze for insights into his experiences and mind-set. Dean DeLeo makes it clear that fans will also get a healthy dose of the hard-edged rock songs for which the quartet is best known.

One track mixes a crunchy rock riff with Weiland's Bowie-esque glam angles. Another alternates between power-pop verses somewhat reminiscent of XTC and harder choruses. A third is a big arena rocker that's almost like Cheap Trick crossed with Nine Inch Nails.

P.S.- The
official STP site as a new picture, and I think it is the album cover.

Acording to MTV (Teri vanHorn), Stone Temple Pilots have finished the preparation of the documentary, that was filmed as they recorded the LP in their beach villa in Malibu.

The film follows STP through the record-making process, from hammering out songs in preproduction to putting the tunes down on tape.

Chapman Baehler, the film's director, said: "...It's got a lot of really beautiful, moody shots - these art shots with either Dean or Robert playing an old organ in a really beautiful space, to Dean and Scott playing acoustic, to some totally awesome rock-out live stuff in the main recording space..."

P.S.- Both the book and the film should be out later this year.

What about a double- album???? A source at the band's label, Atlantic, said the label is hesitant about the idea.

Read the rest here.

STP are currently filming a documentary about their next album, and it is being directed by the siblings Chapman and Rebecca Baehler. The film will contain backstage footage and studio scenes from the band hard at work (ahem!). A distribution deal is being sorted out as you read this.

"Heaven and Hot Rods" has just been picked to be a part of the soundtrack of the new PlayStation II game: "Cool Boarders 2001". It also includes a not-to-be-missed live rendition of ''Down''.
